My second grade teacher told us that the origin of the word 'news' is related to the 4 cardinal compass points. I dunno if there is any truth to that, but it should lend itself well as title to general newsy posts here on the VE Blog. Sometimes I get too busy to post leading to my blog queue getting stacked up. I guess its convenient to periodically catch up by blowing them all out in one catch-all post. GeoLax sounded too disgusting, so Mapping N-E-W-S it is.

Destroy All Invaders- Using Silverlight, Andy Beaulieu developed this nice asteroids style game that takes place over the Birds Eye scene of your choice. Select from a handful landmark locations or enter your own address, then fly around and blast invading saucers. Source code is available as well.

GeoWeb 2007 Conference - Ron Lake dropped me a mail to let me know about the upcoming conference as well as the related blog. The conference starts July 23rd in Vancouver BC.

The Pushpin Project - The Live Search Maps marketing team started this site to promote Collections. Working with Wexley School for Girls, they created the site and the accompanying giant pushpins that have been 'tacked' to businesses around Seattle. Neat idea, not sure what their plans are to promote it beyond Seattle, but the reviews they put up for the participating businesses are pretty spot on - I'd like to see them grow this to other cities.

Dassault Partnership - Microsoft and Dassault announced a partnership recently and this accompanying information site. Note that this is an announcement of an expanded partnership, and not of specific product plans. We'll have to sit tight for a while and see what the Spaceland team have in store. Here is some more news about Dassault's related announcements of late. Some commentary from the Register as well. What does 'noddy' mean?

Maporama Partnership - Maporama, who like Dassault is also HQ'd in Paris, announced a partnership with Microsoft to offer services of the Virtual Earth platform to their customers to compliment their existing location-based service offerings. The announcement is here.
