February 02 You can Assist in the Search for Jim GrayAs you probably all know, Jim Gray and his 40 foot sailboat Tenacious have been missing at sea off the coast of san fran since early this week. You can help in the search to find Jim by looking at recent satellite images. Anyone can help, and if you have experience working with very raw satellite imagery, all the better. You'll find all you need to know to get started here: http://www.mturk.com/mturk/preview?groupId=J0XZ58STDWJZ5QY4F9M0 this is a true needle/haystack problem. potentially billions of pixels to sift through looking for a patch as small as 6X6 pixels. the more eyeballs on this the better of course. NOTE – this is pretty raw imagery, straight from the satellite to your eyes. Most of us are used to looking at aerial imagery at virtual earth or google maps after it has been ortho rectified, color balanced, imaged processed and all. this stuff isn’t pretty like that. its analogous to buying meat in your supermarket nicely packaged, or poking around in the slaughterhouse. this stuff is messy, and the quality will vary greatly from image to image. but do your best. there are some good sample images on the instruction page to give you some idea what to be looking for.
